Multipurpose Infrastructure Facility – Ilin Vrh

With the development of Dubrovnik Airport and the significant increase in traffic capacity, the Croatian Air Navigation Services (HKZP) identified the need to upgrade the existing air traffic control infrastructure. Due to the complex terrain of the Dubrovnik area and the requirements for full coverage of the Dubrovnik terminal zone, HKZP assessed this location as strategically highly favorable for the installation of a secondary radar system.

At the designated site, a multipurpose 25-meter-high steel lattice tower was designed. At its top, a platform was built to accommodate an LVA radar antenna, protected by a radar dome with a diameter of 9.8 m, bringing the total height of the tower including the dome to 32.5 m.

The multipurpose tower was designed at the request of OiV d.o.o. and HKZP d.o.o. and serves for:

a) OiV requirements – installation of broadcasting systems and equipment for digital television (DVB-T), telecommunication equipment, antenna systems for public communication networks (GSM and UMTS), microwave link devices and antennas, and other electronic equipment, in line with technological requirements.

b) HKZP requirements – installation of a secondary radar system with ADS-B functionality, providing the necessary conditions to support the growing traffic capacity in the Dubrovnik terminal zone and the southern “en-route” sector.
