Replacement of 110 kV Submarine Power Cables
One of the strategic projects of the Republic of Croatia was the replacement of outdated 110 kV oil-filled submarine cables (environmentally unacceptable) with new submarine cables featuring modern design, environmentally friendly technology, and significantly higher transmission capacity. Given the stringent technical and environmental requirements, the implementation of this project was particularly challenging and dynamic, requiring the application of innovative technological solutions and construction methods. Ultimately, the project was successfully completed, and the entire cable connection was put into operation.
The project included the replacement of approximately 14 km of land/submarine cables, the application of advanced coastal protection drilling techniques, the complete revitalization and adaptation of originating substations and cable junction facilities, as well as the removal of existing oil-filled cables. With the successful completion of the project, a safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly electricity supply for the Kvarner islands has been secured, providing up to 75% higher load capacity for the power network.
