Dalekovod-Projekt in a Historic Energy Interconnection Project in Sweden

15.04.2025.

Dalekovod-Projekt is participating in one of the most significant infrastructure projects for Sweden’s energy transition – the design and construction of two new 400 kV overhead lines and the reconstruction of an existing 400 kV line along a 460-kilometer corridor between Karlstad and Östersund. This mega-project, known as Karlstadbenet, will increase the electricity transmission capacity between the north and south of the country and alleviate bottlenecks between energy regions. As part of a team led by Swedish company Tyréns acting as the main consultant, Dalekovod-Projekt and Cowi provide expert support in their respective fields. The project, valued at over €62 million, is commissioned by Svenska kraftnät, the Swedish national electricity transmission system operator.

As a key subcontractor, Dalekovod-Projekt is responsible for providing engineering and expert services in the field of electrical power engineering. Their role, in cooperation with Tyréns and Cowi, covers the full process of designing new and reconstructing existing overhead lines – from initial surveys to detailed engineering design and construction support. Specifically, this includes: field investigations and preliminary route planning, feasibility analyses and optimization of structural solutions, preparation of materials for public consultations, submission of concession applications and environmental impact assessments and development of detailed technical solutions for construction.

"We are proud to be part of such a significant project that will have long-term positive effects on Sweden’s electricity system. With our extensive experience in planning and designing power systems, Dalekovod-Projekt brings valuable knowledge and resources that will contribute to the successful implementation of this complex infrastructure task. We are also excited to collaborate with Tyréns and Cowi, as the exchange of knowledge and experience not only strengthens our international presence but also collectively advances a more successful and greener energy transition in Europe," emphasize the team at Dalekovod-Projekt.

The project is expected to last over ten years. The first phase involves defining possible line routes and selecting the optimal path within the designated corridor, followed by technical design development and obtaining the necessary permits. Construction of the transmission lines is planned after 2030. Throughout the process, Dalekovod-Projekt will actively collaborate with Tyréns and other partners to ensure timely and high-quality project execution.

By participating in this prestigious project, Dalekovod-Projekt confirms its position as a leading expert in power network design. This collaboration with international partners in building a reliable and efficient electricity system for Sweden, along with its contribution to energy transition and sustainable development, further strengthens Dalekovod-Projekt’s expertise and credentials in the European market.
